CHINA should be banned from hosting international conferences, Taiwanese delegates who had been denied visas to the conference said yesterday.
The nine delegates said China had rejected the visa applications of at least 20 Taiwanese and 52 Tibetans wanting to attend the NGO Forum in Beijing, although they had followed the procedures in their application.
The group arrived in Hong Kong yesterday and staged a protest outside the headquarters of Xinhua (the New China News Agency).
They accused China of violating international regulations and UN principles.
'China is not qualified to hold international conferences in the future,' said Lin Ming-min of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan.
In March last year, a UN consultation meeting passed a resolution stating 'Tibetans and Taiwanese women should be allowed to attend the NGO Forum'.
