REFERRING to S. Hanke's letter (South China Morning Post, August 23), I would like to reply to his complaint about the rudeness and arrogance of locals. I can only say you get exactly what you give.

I have lived in Hong Kong for over 27 years and while I find some occasional rudeness, in the main I have always been treated fairly and with consideration.
On the other hand, I have faced extraordinary rudeness in such cities as Los Angeles, New York, Paris and Rome, to mention a few.
For an extremely overcrowded metropolis whose population is under constant pressure and stress, I think the people of Hong Kong show remarkable patience and understanding.
