THE votes of the 50 to 60 non-partisan district board members will be decisive in the battle for the 10 Legislative Council seats decided by the Election Committee, candidates say.
Jockeying for the votes has become so intense district board members are being bombarded by phone calls from candidates.
The committee is made up of all 283 district board members and will elect 10 Legco members.
Chaplin Lam Cheuk-bun, an independent board member from Eastern district, said some candidates had called him more than five times to ask him for his support.
Mr Lam said many other independents had also received a lot of 'canvassing phone calls' from candidates and campaign agents.
'Sometimes, I get calls from candidates three or four times in one afternoon,' he said.
Most candidates acknowledged that the major political parties and their allies accounted for the bulk of first-choice votes.
