Party blasts government

A MAJOR political party yesterday blasted the Government for ignoring the needs of Yuen Long residents in its handling of the traffic problem created by the closure of Tuen Mun Highway.

Democratic Party transport spokesman Zachary Wong Wai-yin said the Government should not have focused all its efforts on Tuen Mun as the Yuen Long area was also badly hit by the traffic chaos. It was Yuen Long residents who suffered most since traffic came to a standstill in the area when the bulk of Kowloon-bound vehicles had to make their journeys via Yuen Long and the Tolo Highway, Mr Wong said. A temporary flyover should be built to ease heavy traffic between the town and the Au Tau roundabout.
