SECRETARY for Trade and Industry Brian Chau Tak-hay yesterday ruled out the need to consider China's feelings in appointing the new executive director of the Trade Development Council (TDC).

His remarks came amid reports that Secretary for Civil Service Michael Sze Cho-cheung would head the body responsible for promoting Hong Kong's overseas trade.
Mr Sze has been criticised by the Chinese authorities for his firm support for Governor Chris Patten during the fruitless Sino-British talks over the territory's political development.
On the need to consider China's feelings, Mr Chau said: 'The TDC's job is to promote trade. It has nothing to do with politics and I believe the China factor should not be taken into account.'
