THE recent women's NGO forum in Beijing produced some interesting scenes, highlighted by the increasing male-female tension in modern society.
As women gain more freedom and economic power, they are naturally inclined to challenge the existing male-determined status quo which keeps so many women in bondage.
Unfortunately, media coverage of women's efforts to better themselves invariably focuses on noisy, high-profile campaigns which emphasise sexuality - abortion, contraception, lesbianism, prostitution and similar headline-grabbing topics.
It's not surprising to find editors trying to attract male readers by titillating their sexual curiosity.
The real issues at stake, of course, are power and money - more subtle and secretive factors than sex.
Men love power and will do anything to retain it. How? By military force which women are excluded from, or are merely used as tokens.
I'm really surprised at the lack of anti-military protests and activities at the Beijing forum.
