IBM has unveiled three new high-end Pentium-based portable computers and cut prices on some older models with 486 chips.

The new machines will be available tomorrow and include full multimedia capabilities, 75-megahertz Pentium processors, faster modems and larger hard drives.

The ThinkPad 755CD, 755CDV and 755CV are targeted for the corporate market and are priced between $5,449 and $6,649.

The Pentium-powered notebooks replace ThinkPads with the older 486DX4 chips. IBM cut prices on the 486 machines by as much as 16 per cent.

IBM now offers a total of five Pentium-based notebook machines. Many notebooks are still based on 486 chips because of the relative expense of Pentium processors. Pentium chips are Intel's top-of-the-line processors.
