AIDS workers were yesterday stunned by the death of TV star Keith Kwan - the first Hong Kong celebrity to die from the disease.

Although Kwan, 36, worked for AIDS Concern, few knew he was fighting his own battle with the illness.

Directors at the charity where Kwan was a volunteer only discovered yesterday that the disc jockey was also one of their clients.

The TV presenter died this week in Canada where he had lived with his family since leaving Hong Kong two years ago.

Kwan was a familiar voice on Metro and FM Select. He also presented TVB Pearl's Eye on Hong Kong and ran his own production company.

Former colleagues yesterday paid tribute to the all-rounder, describing him as a talented professional and an exceptional person.
