A KNIFEMAN who hacked a tourist to death in the street was jailed for life yesterday.
Nguyen Thanh Tung, 28, was convicted by a jury of murder and wounding with intent.
Ngo Thi Hong, 26, was jailed for four years after she was found guilty of wounding with intent. She was acquitted of murder.
Le Toan Van, who lived in Britain, came to Hong Kong to visit his best friend Vu Van Tien. But Vu had fallen in with a gang of contraband cigarette hawkers. On December 10 last year, a dispute over territory turned violent.
According to police, Vu and his girlfriend Dang Thi Yen were involved in the sale of contraband cigarettes.
Ngo was said to have told Dang that if she did not stop selling the cigarettes in Hunghom, she would have to 'bear the consequences'. Dang ignored her.
Ngo and Vu had been lovers before he started seeing Dang. Later that day, Vu received several telephone calls from his ex-girlfriend.
