THE territory's highest-profile pro-China figure, Tsang Yok-sing, spent the day in a last desperate effort to fight off the challenge of the liberal camp's Bruce Liu Sing-lee.
Early in the campaign, analysts had suggested Mr Tsang - leader of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong - would win the seat without too much trouble.
But over the past week or so Mr Liu, vice-chairman of the Association for Democracy and People's Livelihood (ADPL), drew ahead in the polls.
And Mr Tsang appeared to be feeling the heat in more ways than one.
The usually media-friendly candidate lost his temper with reporters and photographers.
He accused them of hindering his attempts to canvass voters as some of them refused to talk to him or take his leaflets in front of a TV camera.
