THE INDEPENDENTS ERIC LI KA-CHEUNG, the former convenor of the so-called 'breakfast party' - a loose conglomeration of like-minded independents - is keen to maintain an alternative voice in the new council.
Mr Li, formerly an appointed legislator, was re-elected to Legco via the accountancy constituency with the backing of 1,376 voters.
He said he would seek to strengthen his role in scrutinising government financing.
He said he would also keep the breakfast party going.
The breakfast party, convened by Mr Li in the last legislature, included 10 legislators. It was so named because members used their breakfast meetings to share their views on government policies.
Mr Li said the group would continue to meet this session. Four of the original 10 have been returned.
They are Mr Li, Andrew Wong Wang-fat, Chim Pui-chung and Samuel Wong Ping-wai.
