AFTER hearing the Tate's Cairn Tunnel Company's appalling traffic announcement about a dozen times, I think I have managed to glean the fact that its autotoll system is not compatible with the system in use in all the other autotoll tunnels.
They 'regret any inconvenience'.
If they accept that their rogue system is out of step with the other tunnels and recognise that it causes inconvenience, why did they start using a different system in the first place? More to the point, why did somebody in the Transport Department allow them to install an incompatible system? In this 'modern' city where, for example, the MTR and KCR happily use each other's stored value cards (which effectively is what an autotoll tag is) and in these days of the 'smart card', why are two incompatible systems allowed to exist?
