GOLF, long considered a rich man's game, will soon be available to children on the street, exploding the myth of exclusivity.
This follows the formation of the Junior Golf Development Foundation recently.
The scheme was officially launched with a $1 million donation from real estate businessman Albert Lai Kwok-wing, who is a keen golfer himself and happily leapt to the cause.
'Many people have the idea that golf is only for the rich people,' said Mr Lai.
'But I want to do something to bring the game to children who do not have a chance to become a member of a golf club.' Mr Lai made a deal with portraitist Dr Darling Lee Allison to paint his portrait in return for the large donation.
The initial programme is aimed at youngsters from the New Territories.
The Hong Kong Golf Association and the Regional Services Department are working together on the project.
