THE exteriors of the University Hall, Hung Hing Ying Building and Tang Chi Ngong Building of the University of Hong Kong at Pokfulam have been declared historical buildings.

The University Hall, a blend of Tudor and Gothic architectural styles, stands on top of a hill at Pokfulam.

It was first built around 1861 by Douglas Lapraik, a Scottish businessman.

In 1894, a French Mission bought the castle from Lapraik and re-named it Nazareth House.

Additions included a dormitory, a chapel, a library and a large printing house.

The new building was first used in May 1896. The printing workshop was notable for printing around 60,000 books a year in 28 languages.
