TWO expert Swiss watchmaking companies that have been hiding their light under a bushel are determined to step into the limelight.
Zenith recently won an award for the best mechanical movement of the year in Europe and the company has won a string of awards for technical achievements. Its famous El Primero movement was taken up by Rolex, Ebel and Alfred Dunhill among others.
Zenith has been producing its own watches for more than 130 years but the company is now trying to become even more well-known.
As part of this strategy, the award-winning movement has been incorporated into a sophisticated new line of automatic watches called the Series 6.
The name comes from the fact that the calibres for the different functions of watches in the line, such as dual time or small second hand, all begin with '6'.
'The Series 6 has an ultra-thin movement which is only about 3.25mm and an elegant antique dress watch look,' said C. W. Wong, a spokesman for the company. There are nine different models in the Series 6.
