THE stock exchange and the Securities and Futures Commission have jointly organised a conference for listed companies and professional advisers to strengthen corporate governance among listed companies.

Designed to open up a channel for communication between the three parties, the conference, on November 2, has attracted a warm response from more than 250 companies.

The conference is a follow-up by the exchange to instil corporate governance into the marketplace.

Listing division head Herbert Hui Ho-ming said the exchange had recently introduced numerous rules on corporate governance to keep up its international standards.

'We believe the market needs time to digest the rules, and it is the time to work with it to understand the situation,' he said.

Mr Hui said the conference would be a regular exercise, conducted every three months.
