Waiting game for president
NOMINATIONS for the post of president of the Legislative Council have yet to be received at the clerk's office.
Nominations opened on Monday and close next Thursday.
The election of the president will take place on October 11 after the swearing-in ceremony of newly-elected legislators.
So far, only independent Andrew Wong has indicated interest in running for the office, and he has received the support of the largest faction in the council, the Democratic Party, and some other independents.
It is understood the Liberal Party and some other independents have lobbied the former secretary for health and welfare, Elizabeth Wong Chien Chi-lien, to compete for the presidency.
However, Mrs Wong said she would prefer to run for the chairmanship of Legco's powerful finance committee.
