MANDARIN Oriental International says it will invest US$100 million in five Asia-Pacific projects over the next three years. Agreement had been signed on the building of three hotels at Surabaya in Indonesia, Kahala in Hawaii, and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, amounting to a total investment of US$388.5 million, of which the group would contribute a total of US$70.5 million. Final agreement had not been reached on two other hotels, in Bagan, Burma, and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, but the group intended to invest a total of US$30 million on the projects. The five projects would bring the number of Mandarin hotels worldwide to 17. All five hotels would be five star and would trade under the name of Majapahit and Mandarin Oriental.
