A TOTAL of 291 young people were presented with awards at the 60th silver award presentation of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme held recently. The Education Department Operating Authority topped the performance list with 100 awardees, whereas the Scout Association of Hong Kong and the Royal Hong Kong Police Force operating authorities had 87 and 51 awardees, respectively. Deputy Director of Social Welfare Louise S. Y. Wong, who officiated at the ceremony, praised the award scheme for its devotion to cultivate young people through all-round developments. 'Young people are trained to be responsible, creative, energetic, considerate and confident.' Ms Wong also encouraged the awardees to strive for the Gold Award. Some 75 veteran volunteers were also presented Certificates of Appreciation for their outstanding contribution to the scheme. Attending the ceremony were chairman of DEA Operations Committee Lincoln H. L. Soo, chairman of DEA Publicity and Promotion Committee Paul Fan and Award Council members.
