DEPOSED volleyball president Shek Chun-tak will not be getting back his seat despite an appeal to the world ruling body not to recognise the officials who overthrew him.

Shek, who had ruled the Hong Kong and Kowloon Volleyball Association (HKVA) for more than three decades, was ousted from power by former secretary Tang Kin-kwok in an emergency members' meeting on July 19.

Shek wrote to the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) claiming he was illegally stripped of his position and his son Michael Shek Ming-wai called a meeting of HKVA members seeking reinstatement of the elderly Shek as president.

It was learned that the FIVB had proposed a revamp of the HKVA's structure in which the president would be only a figurehead and the association would be run by a managing director.

Top Chinese sports official Wei Jizhong, who was appointed by the FIVB to look into the issue, said during a visit to Hong Kong last week that it is up to the local Olympic Committee to settle the dispute.

Wei had met A. de O. Sales, president of the Amateur Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong (ASF & OC), and it is understood that they have agreed to a 'face saving' solution.
