ASIAN experts from Spain's largest bank believe Spanish exports to Hong Kong and other Asian nations will continue to skyrocket next year. But they have warned Spanish businesses and those interested in capitalising on the export boom not to concentrate solely on consumer products, which are mainly responsible for enormous increases in export trade from Spain. The Spanish Trade Commission estimates that exports such as Spanish leather have increased more than 190 per cent since 1992. Santander Investment's managing director and Asian regional manager, Ho Teck-cheong, said he believed Spain's consumer product revolution in Asia, which had occurred particularly over the past 12 months, would continue. 'But I would advise Spanish businesses not to concentrate on one specific area, such as consumer goods,' he said. 'There are a number of resources which can be targeted and businessmen will be wise if they diversify away from consumer goods.' Mr Ho listed expertise in construction, engineering and telecommunications technology as key areas for expanding export potential. One example was the alliance of companies Entrecanales and Cubiertas to work on the Chek Lap Kok airport.
