BEIJING police have confirmed that Italo Abruzzese, the senior Italian trade official found dead in his hotel room, was murdered. 'The police told us it was indeed murder and that they had found a knife and a small hand gun,' an Italian Embassy spokesman said yesterday. The discovery of the weapons appears to be at odds with the autopsy report, which said Abruzzese suffered multiple blows to the head. Police are continuing their investigation and have yet to detain any suspects. A representative of the Italian Trade Ministry is due to arrive in Beijing with one of Abruzzese's relatives today. Abruzzese, 63, arrived in the capital for a trade fair on Thursday morning and was killed after he returned to the Jingguang Hotel that afternoon.
