MR R.J. Fletcher's letter telling us that advertising 'bans do not reduce (tobacco) consumption' (South China Morning Post, October 6), reeks of the Tobacco Institute's usual sophistry.
If he is correct perhaps tobacco companies' shareholders should sue their managements for wasting untold millions of shareholder funds.
Reading his self-serving words regarding freedom, the Bill of Rights and the ignoring of scientific facts would be amusing were it not that they are written in the interest of companies peddling death and disease for profit.
