HIGH-PROFILE film producer Steven Lo Kit-shing was chopped on the back and chest early yesterday in a triad-style attack.
He was ambushed by at least two men after visiting his girlfriend, Chan Ka-ling, who was playing mahjong at a Tsim Sha Tsui club.
Mr Lo, 36, chairman of the Regal Group, was in fair condition in Queen Elizabeth Hospital last night after surgery.
The Kowloon West anti-triad unit is investigating the attack, carried out in Mody Road at 3.30 am. Acting Senior Superintendent Victor Lo Yik-kee said the probe would focus on possible triad involvement.
Mr Lo told police there was no reason for the attack and he could not be sure of the number of assailants.
He was treated at the scene before being taken to the hospital, where 10 well-built men arrived to guard him and prevent photographers and cameramen getting near him.
Chief executive of the Motion Picture Industry Association Peter Tsi Ka-kei said: 'These incidents are not doing our image any good, but we already have a bad reputation.
