THE marketing of special fibres for fire-proof textiles is the main aim of a new joint venture between E I Du Pont De Nemours and Teijin.
The venture will market meta-aramid fibre products in China, Macau and Hong Kong. It also might begin manufacture of meta-aramid staple fibres and downstream value-added products in China should the market growth require.
The companies signed a letter of intent to establish the 50-50 joint venture, which marked their third partnership in the meta-aramid area.
The new venture could start operation in the first quarter of next year.
'We believe that this new partnership with Teijin will result in more rapid growth and development of the meta-aramid fibre market in China,' Du Pont 'Nomex' global business director, Walter Fields, said.
'We know there is growing need for high quality and technically outstanding thermal protection products in the China-Hong Kong region and we believe meta-aramid fibre products are outstanding candidates to help satisfy this need.' The fibre is used for protective clothing, gas filtration and industrial laundry.
