PART of Mongkok is to be turned into a pedestrian precinct on Sundays if a three-month trial is successful.

A Transport Department spokesman said the scheme, to be undertaken from noon to 9 pm, was expected to benefit shops, but encourage illegal hawking and hygiene problems.
Part of Tung Choi Street, which runs parallel to Nathan Road, and some side streets would be closed.
Functions such as street parties might be allowed if they did not cause a nuisance.
An Urban Services Department spokesman said 50 staff, including three hawker teams, would be deployed.
