MANY students and young people were unaware of the Charter for Youth, said Form Seven student John Chan Shu-ming.
John, 18, from Queen's College, Causeway Bay - one of the charter's signatories - said it had benefited young people little even though it came with many good intentions and suggestions.
'The contents are superficial and not many people are aware of the charter's existence,' he said.
John, also speaking from experience as a member of a community centre which is also a signatory, said charter-related activities, such as seminars on youth topics, drew small audiences.
And he could only recall one event at school - an exhibition held a year ago.
The charter should have binding power, he said. 'Many of the signatories are not whole-hearted in promoting the charter's spirit.'
