THE SOUTH China Morning Post director of circulation, Ambrose Turnbull, says the Tai Po facility provides the paper with a strategic distribution centre.

He said the location of the Morning Post Centre allowed for quicker delivery in the New Territories and outlying areas as well as the growing China market - a far cry from the restricted confines of the Post's old facility in Quarry Bay.

'It makes access to China much more comfortable in terms of the timing of the printing of the papers with the easy route to Guangzhou,' he said.

'Now, we go direct by road every day - which was a process that took about two years to clear in terms of the appropriate licences - and we are there by 6.15 every morning.' Mr Turnbull said the Post sold about 5,000 copies a day in the 'hugely important' China market and that it was the only Hong Kong paper - English-or Chinese-language - to do so.

It also had same-day delivery to all major cities in China to meet the growing demand for English-language publications.
