ACER Computer (Far East) has launched its AcerAltos 7000 Value and Premium Series of network servers in Hong Kong. The new servers come with the latest features, sophisticated functionality, and a high level of reliability and management server tools. The servers are specially made to suit corporate workgroup and enterprise networking. The AcerAltos 7000 Value and Premium Series come with Acer's most modern ModuFlex modular design which provides smooth CPU scalability from Intel's Pentium 60-megahertz to 75-MHz processors, and even to the top-of-the-line of Pentium 100s. ModuFlex will offer customers multiple CPU access and broaden the lifespan of the system to provide more enhanced value. The 7000 supports Intel MP 1.1 specifications so users are assured of standards compliance and shrink-wrapped operating system support. Both 7000 Value and Premium series comes bundled with a CD-ROM drive and Acer's Server Manager Netware 1.5 upgradable to 2.0, or with an option for UNIX version 1.0. Michael Mak, managing director of Acer Computer (Far East), said: 'These software solutions will really help users set up their systems much more easily and will provide them with more security.' The Acer Server Manager for Netware was designed specially for the Novell Netware operating system, and it provided centralised management of file servers and network services such as alerting. The AcerAltos 7000 Value series is aimed at the mid-range market. It will have 256 kilobytes of second-level write-back cache and 16 megabytes of RAM in the single CPU models, and 512 KB of cache and 32 MB of RAM in dual CPU models. With the second ZIF (zero insertion force) socket, users can upgrade their 7000 with 100-MHz processors for additional power. The AcerAltos 7000 Premium series is aimed at the high-end as a high-availability solution for environments demanding more advanced data integrity and superior reliability than is normally provided.
