DOZENS of women have contacted their doctors to find out if they are taking contraceptive pills shown by overseas studies to be twice as likely as other brands to cause blood clotting.

The Hong Kong Medical Association will today attempt to allay fears about the pills, which are freely available in Hong Kong.

A statement from the Family Planning Association of Hong Kong said women should not stop taking the pills on the basis of the overseas tests.

It also reiterated its stance that women taking contraceptive pills should have regular check-ups.

A spokesman for the association said the Wan Chai clinic had received '10 or 15 calls'.

Calls have also been directed to the other seven clinics across the territory while other women had visited clinics.

At the end of last week, Britain's Committee on Safety of Medicines issued a statement after reviewing three studies not yet published in medical journals.
