JAZZ fans, grab this! One of America's top jazz groups, the Modern Jazz Quartet (MJQ), will perform at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall on November 10. Hear the distinctive sounds that have made the group famous among music-lovers. The group was started in the 1950s by four young musicians, John Lewis on piano, Percy Heath on bass, Milt Jackson on vibraharp and Connie Kay on drums, and immediately set out to create a new kind of American music - modern jazz. Their style fuses new world jazz and blues with old world counterpoint and fugue. The MJQ, now in its 43rd year, is one of the longest modern jazz groups still performing together. Critics call them a 'living legend'. The MJQ has made yearly international concert tours, playing about 75 concerts annually, and has recorded 56 albums. Recognition of their achievements in Western music has come from all over the world, including official city ceremonies in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, Trieste, Belgrade and Istanbul. Tickets for the concert at $320, $200 and $100 are available at all Urbtix outlets (half-price for senior citizens, the disabled and full-time students).
