A VERDICT of accidental death was returned on a 70-year-old woman who died after losing a litre of blood during a kidney operation. Fok Suet-ha died at St Teresa's Hospital, Kowloon, having lost a fifth of her blood from a damaged artery and a torn vein, the jury at the inquest heard. Summing up, Coroner's Officer John Saunders told the jury the tears in the main vein were caused accidentally when Dr Fung Kwok-hay had tried to remove the infected kidney. He said urgent steps had been taken by doctors to save Fok, who suffered massive blood loss and shock from which she did not recover. Outside the Coroner's Court, Fok's son and daughter said they were disappointed by the verdict.
