IT'S not quite the $64,000 question, but reporters asking Mr Patten whether he plans to resign could still find themselves out of pocket. The Governor, clearly fed up with speculation about whether he will stay in his post until 1997, yesterday came up with a novel method of bringing it to a halt. 'Can I suggest that we do a deal together,' he told reporters at Kai Tak airport, at the end of his nine-day trip to London. 'The next person who asks me that question in the next 600 days makes a $500 contribution to the Hong Kong Journalists' Association charity fund. How about that for a deal? You know what the answer to the question is. I know what the question is . . . they will be very grateful,' he said.
