THE romantic atmosphere drove a priest to French-kiss a former colleague during their first meeting alone in his home, Kwun Tong Court heard yesterday. Ngai Kung-ming, 41 - the chief executive of World Vision Hong Kong - denied two counts of indecently assaulting the 27-year-old woman in his Ngau Tau Kok flat on February 6. Ngai yesterday told the court he invited the woman to dinner hoping to ask for her assistance in a fund-raising project. The woman had left the organisation in December last year, the court heard. Ngai said that being the minister of a Baptist church in Kwun Tong, he regarded himself as a 'good senior' rather than a friend of the woman. But a romantic mood developed as they looked through his photo albums during the meal, he said. 'We sat close to each other. When we finished the albums, her face was right here on my shoulder,' Ngai said, touching his left shoulder. 'I think the eye contact, friendliness and her smile encouraged an intimacy.' The priest said the warmth led him to kiss the woman. He denied that the woman had rejected him, saying her response was natural and spontaneous. 'I thought she felt good too. I think we both were enjoying the kissing.' The court heard Ngai, while driving the woman home, suggested going to Kowloon Peak, where he was alleged to have attacked her again. But the priest said he had enveloped the woman in his coat when they got out of the car at the peak. They also hugged and kissed, Ngai said, adding he touched her breast through her clothing at one stage, but did not make skin contact. But the atmosphere turned cold as they were leaving, the court heard. Ngai said the woman told him the incident was 'disgusting', which he could not understand. Ngai earlier testified he had French-kissed the woman for more than 10 minutes on one occasion, then immediately corrected himself, saying it was more than 10 seconds. Ngai added he understood the danger of inviting a woman to his home alone. When magistrate Julia Livesey asked why he put himself in such a position, Ngai said: 'My intention at the beginning was to have a business talk and my place was quiet for talks.' The hearing continues today.
