SHIP operator and owner Torm Asia is ordering two 27,000 dwt log bulk carriers from Hudong shipyard in Shanghai at a price of about US$20 million each, to be delivered in 1997. Set up in 1991, Torm Asia is the Hong Kong arm of Denmark's Dampskibsselskabet Torm, which was set up more than 106 years ago and is listed in Copenhagen. 'Though a young company, Torm Asia has proved itself as a reliable owner and operator of Handysize and Panamax bulk carriers,' said managing director Jens-Erik Olsen. 'The two-ship order from the Hudong shipyard firmly establishes Torm Asia as a shipowner in the Pacific Handysize market,' he said. Torm Asia operates 16 ships, half of which are Handysize and half, Panamax bulk carriers. Torm Eastern, bought last year, is the flagship.
