NATIONAL coach Wong Man-wai needs a miracle to pull Hongkong out of the doldrums for Sunday's first leg of the Guangdong interport following a lacklustre goalless draw with lowly Happy Valley yesterday. It was Hongkong's second friendly against a First Division club side at So Kun Po in three days but they failed to play any better than against Michelotti, when they drew 2-2. Wong, however, was unperturbed by the two uninspiring performances and is confident the team will give a good account of themselves in the interport. ''We'll be using virtually an all-Eastern line-up and there is no question about teamwork because the boys have been playing together for a long time and know each other's game well,'' said Wong. ''Today's (yesterday's) match was a light training session for the boys and we didn't go all out for a result, so it is hard to use it as a guideline to judge our ability.'' For the first time in more than 10 years, Hongkong will be allowed to field three foreign players. Goalkeeper Iain Hesford and striker Dale Tempest are assured of places with Ross Greer and Trevor Quow vying for the third spot. Hongkong started the Happy Valley match with Quow on the bench but the Instant-Dict midfielder came on after the interval in place of Greer. The Hongkong team enjoyed more possession in the first half but never really came close to scoring being well contained by the rugged, close-checking Happy Valley defence. After the interval, with Quow playing, Hongkong had more control in mid-field. Wong, however, hinted that Greer would still probably be picked ahead of Quow. He said: ''We have yet to finalise our team but Hesford and Tempest are sure to fill two of the three foreign-player spots. ''I would like to see Greer in the side as he can add more bite to our attack whereas Quow's position in midfield can easily be taken over by Wu Yiu-kwok. ''But the final decision won't be made until I talk with the team managers on Saturday.''
