Japan-China cargo in July falls 12.9 pc

CONTAINERISED exports from Japan to China in July showed a decline of 12.9 per cent from a year earlier to 15,531 teu, according to figures released by the Japan-China Marine Transportation Council.

Containerised exports from China to Japan posted a strong gain of 28.7 per cent to 51,377 teu in July, the council said.

Feeder cargo from Japan to China dropped 52.2 per cent to 3,400 teu.

Of the China-bound cargo, Shanghai registered 5,745 teu (down 18.3 per cent), Tianjin 2,282 (up 11.3 per cent), Qingdao 1,060 (up 28.6 per cent), Dalian 1,701 (down 31 per cent), and other ports 4,743 (down 13.3 per cent).

Of the Chinese exports to Japan, 15,581 teu came from Shanghai (up 27.5 per cent), 8,413 from Tianjin (up 56.8 per cent), 7,148 from Qingdao (up 34.5 per cent), 5,256 from Dalian (up 29.6 per cent) and 14,979 from other ports (up 15.6 per cent).

Japanese ships hauled 8,409 teu both ways, accounting for 12.6 per cent of the total, while Chinese vessels transported 58,499 teu, or the other 87.4 per cent.
