THE multi-modal terminal on the Austrian Danube at Linz has switched all landside container and swapbody handling from forklift trucks to Kalmar ContChamp reachstackers.
The operator of the Port of Linz, Stradt Betriebe Linz (SBL), has taken delivery of a ContChamp reachstacker as well as an empty container reachstacker.
The Linz terminal is an interchange for both road, rail and barge transport.
While road and rail provide the greatest activity at the moment, barge transport is on the rise.
Container, swapbody and trailer throughput has risen steadily at the Linz terminal. This year's throughput is estimated at 50,000 teus (20-foot equivalent units), up from 43,000 last year.
The increased container barge activity is a main factor behind SBL's forecast of 50 per cent growth next year.
