TWO Chinese girls are about to discover if 888 really is a lucky number . . . they aim to spend 12 days in a small room with that number of dangerous snakes. Qian Linping and Ni Junfang hope to set a world record by lasting for 288 hours in a 30 square metre space in Panyu City with the snakes, which include 666 highly poisonous cobras. Before starting the attempt on Wednesday, the girls 'passed tests on sleeping and kissing snakes', according to Xinhua (the New China News Agency). Telephones have been installed in the 'snake palace' so they can receive calls from watchers outside. However, a first-aid team is standing by outside and the girls are also equipped with snake-bite antidote, just in case their house guests turn nasty. The Guinness Book of Records puts the record for a person living with snakes at 10 days.
