REPUBLIC of Ireland soccer manager Jack Charlton has received a boost as he prepares for his side's crucial November 15 European Championship qualifier in Portugal - his job is safe.

Sean Connolly, chief executive of the Football Association of Ireland, has moved to quash reports that they were lining up a replacement for 'Big Jack', who will have been in the job for 10 years next March.

Connolly insisted Charlton would still be welcome as boss, even if the national team fail to get the result they need in in Lisbon, saying: 'He is there for as long as he chooses.'
