A MENTALLY ill man who chopped a 10-year-old girl on the head while she was walking with her grandmother was sent to the Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre for six months yesterday.
Siu Chi-fai, 33, had earlier pleaded not guilty to wounding Chan Mo-yin on July 15.
Defence barrister Philip Wong told the District Court Siu did not agree that he was mentally ill despite psychiatric reports showing that he was schizophrenic.
The court heard the girl was walking home with her 71-year-old grandmother, Shum Fung-sin, in Ho Man Tin when she was attacked by a man with a chopper.
Prosecutor Niall Stirling said the victim received an eight-centimetre wound.
