I AM writing to let people know we don't have to wait until July 1, 1997, to find out the convenience, or not, of using British National Overseas (BNO) passports.
Recently, I flew to Taiwan by Cathay Pacific with the intention of staying for one night to inspect a consignment of goods.
Upon arrival at Taipei airport, I was refused entry by immigration officials because I was told I did not have the necessary visa.
I tried to explain that British passport-holders do not require visas for stays of less than 10 days.
But to my surprise and disappointment, I was told BNO passport-holders require a visa but not holders of British (United Kingdom) passports.
Needless to say, apart from the expense and time incurred, I had to face the frustration of dealing with the ordeal.
