Hong Kong handled more than seven million teus (20-foot equivalent units) in the first seven months of the year, up 13.9 per cent over the 6.15 million teus handled in the same period last year.
Marine Department figures show Kwai Chung container terminals handled 4.63 million teus, up 14.9 per cent over last year's figure of 4.02 million teus. More than 1.69 million teus were handled in the stream and elsewhere, up 4.8 per cent, while river trade accounted for 687,092 teus, up 34.6 per cent. The July volume was 1.14 million teus.
