CONSIDERING the amount of money invested in newcomer Perfect Swing in the third event last night, it may take some time to get it back - but he will win. The chief surprise was the size of the plunge on the horse as his overall work and record had suggested he would probably need longer than the 1,400 metres that was at his disposal. Basically, that was the way the four year old went for Eric Legrix and he was doing his best work when it was almost over. He will come on from this and is going to be a much better proposition over a mile or longer. In the same race there was a much improved run at only his second start from the Last Tycoon gelding Legitimate who went off at 99-1 but gave a most encouraging performance to be not that far away at the line. Legitimate is still finding his Hong Kong feet but will benefit enormously from this outing and will be at much shorter odds next time. There is a race or two in him. Trainer Bruce Hutchison has nice type in Senator who lost no friends when finishing third in the opening event. He may just have been a little squeezed for room on the inside and it was all quite an occasion for the youngster who was having his first start in a race. He is going to come on very sweetly from this outing.
