THE Art Asia Charity Gala Preview last night at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre raised thousands of dollars for Save the Children. Art dealers, collectors and art lovers attended the gala, each guest paying $1,500. There was also a charity auction of several paintings donated by some dealers. 'Each year we support a different charity; this year we wanted to help children in China,' said Lee Ann Lester of International Fine Art Expositions, the company that organises the annual art show. Save the Children's work in China includes supporting Guangde Children's Home, helping its transformation into a model children's home and fostering care unit. More model homes are planned for Shanghai. Seven years ago, the charity launched a pilot project to integrate disabled children, aged between three and seven years old, into mainstream kindergartens and primary schools in Anhui Province. 'The Save the Children Fund welcomes the opportunity to host this year's Art Asia Charity Gala Preview,' said the charity's head of fund-raising in Hong Kong, Jan Campbell. 'All proceeds will go towards our vital work with the children of China.'
