LEGISLATORS yesterday accused the Government of attempting to deprive them of the right to move private member's bills.
Their anger followed a decision that a bill by unionist Lee Cheuk-yan to halt labour importation had a 'charging effect' and might therefore not be allowed.
The Government said the bill would cost taxpayers an estimated $34 million a year, because extra staff would be needed to decide who was eligible for working visas.

It estimated another 106 immigration officers would be needed.
Under the Legislative Council Standing Orders, permission can be denied to bills which cost the Government money.
