THE slide of office rents in Central and Admiralty localities continues, with an average drop in October of 2.9 per cent to $66.13 per square foot from September, according to City Property Consultants. This represents a fall of 24.1 per cent since January. Vacancy rates eased from 4 per cent to 3.9 per cent, or about 568,400 square feet of unoccupied space. City Property said office rents in Wan Chai and Causeway Bay fell by 2.2 per cent to $46.91 per sq ft last month, or 20.9 per cent since January. The vacancy rate rose from 5.9 per cent to 6.6 per cent, or 621,800 sq ft of unoccupied space. Overall office rents on Hong Kong Island fell by 2.9 per cent to $58.61 per sq ft, or a total of 23.3 per cent so far this year. There was a slight rise in overall vacancies to 4.9 per cent, compared with 4.7 per cent in September. Rents at Exchange Square fell to $99 per sq ft a month while those in Gloucester Tower and Edinburgh Tower were $79 per sq ft. Pacific Place rentals were $79.35 per sq ft. Rents in Citibank Plaza were $72.94 per sq ft, Bank of China Tower $64.20 and Nine Queen's Road Central $61.84. In Wan Chai, Central Plaza reported rentals of $68.21 per sq ft while Convention Plaza returned a rental of $42.57. Rents in Great Eagle Centre were $51.11 a sq ft, Sino Plaza achieved $45.45 and Hopewell Centre $36 a sq ft. In Paliburg Plaza, rents were $47.84 per sq ft, in World Trade Centre $46.32, and in Windsor House $40. Top Glory Tower rents were $56.52 per sq ft.
