AN anonymous tip-off to the prospective son-in-law of casino magnate Mr Stanley Ho led to the recovery of his daughter's stolen jewellery from a rubbish bin in Macau.

The jewellery, worth an estimated $1.5 million, was taken from Mr Ho's BMW when the car was stolen after his daughter's engagement party on December 27.

Garment manufacturer Mr Simon Ho, the fiance of Miss Daisy Ho Chiu-fung, received an anonymous telephone call on Saturday afternoon saying if he wanted to get back the jewellery he should go to Macau.

Mr Ho immediately took a ferry to the Portuguese enclave, where he reportedly found the jewellery - including a diamond necklace, two diamond and platinum rings and a pair of diamond earrings - in a rubbish bin behind the Lisboa Hotel.

Although the jewellery was recovered, police said there was no sign of cash, gold coins and gift vouchers worth $100,000 that were also taken from the car.

''We have not ruled out that the thieves had been unable to dispose of the diamond jewellery, which had special markings,'' a police source said.
