IN her letter (South China Morning Post, October 31) L Proctor wrote that she was unable to obtain the discounts offered to members of the International Airline Passengers Association (IAPA) from a London hotel and a car rental agency in England.

We tried unsuccessfully to reach Mrs Proctor on November 2 to request copies of the relevant bills so we could claim the contracted IAPA savings for her. We subsequently mailed her our letter and hope she will soon be in touch with us to enable us to rectify the situation.

IAPA has contracts with more than 4,000 hotels and international car rental agencies that offer year-round special rates to members, irrespective of season. They are obliged to honour the specified savings to IAPA members on confirmation.

Regarding Mrs Proctor's objection to the auto-charge renewal of membership, this is introduced to prevent any accidental lapse in the travel accident insurance coverage (which forms part of IAPA membership) as our members are constantly on the move throughout the year. For members not wishing to avail themselves of this service, we send them renewal notices on their due dates.

We appreciate Mrs Proctor's comments. As a member of the service industry, we need to be on our toes to ensure we improve on areas where we may have failed, whether through a mistake of our own or of our contract partners.
