WITH multimedia applications being one of the hottest topics at COMDEX '95, it was no surprise that Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG) product announcements took centre stage at the show's Multimedia showcase.
The MPEG standard serves as a way of compressing and decompressing digital data; mainly supporting real-time, full-motion video and audio files, with support for other system data files.
Products based on both MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 - a more sophisticated version offering higher compression and resolution - were on display.
With MPEG, scores of rich digital content, such as movies-on-demand, banking services, video games and home shopping can be easily available to end-users and consumers without taking much memory.
Vision Interactive Publishing introduced multiple MPEG-based products at the show including a 24-bit MPEG card placed in two video CD/MPEG CD Bundles.
The Ace Movie Master MPEG Playback card, in conjunction with a 'Movie Master Board' allows users to play eight types of formatted CDs including video and MPEG. The 24-bit resolution allows for 16 million possible colours compared with the 32,000 colours offered by 16-bit solutions.
The solution is available for US$429.
